Before I begin, let me tell you where I am coming from. I am mainly a Windows user, though I also own a Mac. I use Windows more simply because my Mac is woefully outdated. I have nothing against Macs or against PCs, and I like both equally. This essay is in favor of Macs simply because Macs recieve a lot of abuse, which really bothers me, and Windows do not recieve as much abuse.

In the past few years, Macs have recieved a lot of abuse from most everyone. It is in question whether or not this abuse is justified. Macs have been abused mainly for these reasons:

• Their user interface is allegedly confusing.
• They have less software avaliable than Windows.
• They're Apple.

The first reason is no longer true. With the advent of Mac OS X, Macintosh is, if anything, easier to understand than Windows. It's all subjective anyway; Mac users like the Mac interface more, and Windows users prefer the Windows interface. The third reason is pretty much self-defeating, because it merely demonstrates predjudice. The second reason is still valid, though Macs now have a large collection of powerful software so that they can equal and even exceed Windows software. The only serious lack of Mac software is in the area of games. However, if you are not a gamer, there are a number of powerful motives to buy a Mac:

• The hardware is of a much higher standard. It does cost more, but will last longer and perform better.
• As we all know, Macs are very elegant machines. For instance:
  
  Try to find a Windows computer that pretty!
• As I mentioned before, the software is also of a very high quality.

In short, the Macintosh is a high-quality alternative to Windows which deserves a lot more respect in the computer universe than it gets.
